Newt Gingrich and SC

I would just like to say that I wrote, "The Miracle," and published it before all the media stuff took off with Newt Gingrich and his wish for a open marriage/polyamorous marriage.  Just Saying:)

I was able to finally get Netflix to send me the final season of, "Big Love," on DVD this week.  I was glad to finally see the series ending episode on Saturday night.

Have been very busy working on another story,  For those of you who like the smut, I'm sorry to say this is turning into a non-smut story.  My husband is happy, while he thinks it funny I write more colorful stories, He said that I just don't seem like the kind of person who should be writing them.  Think sweatpants, sweatshirts, vivtoria's secret granny panties, and fuzzy slippers.

Onto the politics:  As I predicted candidates are starting to drop like flies.  Also as predicted they are endorsing a candidate they hope their supporters will switch allegience to.  I'ts disapointing that so many of the candidates have dropped out.  It's really not fair to the rest of us who have primaries so late in the year.  By the time PA gets around to it we usually only have two candidates to choose from.  Would love a chance to have a full cadre of choices.

Need to go work on the new story, over 3,000 words yesterday. Cheers, Adelaye

New Hampshire Primary

O.K. Back to the politics.  I really Hope Ron Paul Runs in the election.  It will make it that much easier for Obama to win re-election.

For those of you who don't know why this is so:  Ron Paul usually collects many Libertarian voters, who during primaries often vote Republican.  In a state like New Hampshire there are lots of Libertarian voters.

If Romney wins the Republican nomination then Ron Paul will also run, but as a libertarian.  The Libertarians never garnish enough votes to win, only to be annoying. ( I live with a Libertarian).  So in an actual election the votes get split.  Less actual votes for Republicans which almost guarantees a win for Obama.

The only way this could bite Democrats in the ass, would be if Ron Paul conceeds right before the election and Asks his supporters to vote for Romney.  Like that is ever gonna happen.  Most people who voted for Ron Paul in the first place have serious doubts about Romney.

So there is the political wisdom of the day. :)

Do Not Vote for Rick Santorum

I live in PA.  Sometimes I have to wonder why he doesn't speak about his voting record in PA politics.  Yes, his name is known in PA.  Just questioning why he has not spent more time gathering the forces here.  BECAUSE he is known in PA that's why.

To out of it to post a coherent blog today.  Had Throat surgery yesterday.  At least I can still type if I can't talk.

Labor Unions-The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

100 years ago Labor Unions were extremely important to Americas continued financial expansion and success.  Today, Labor Unions actually hurt the economy.  Why?  I'll spell it out.

100 years ago companies could and did hire people to work and pay them almost nothing.  As the economy grew and the wealth of the working class grew, transitory goods were able to be purchased. So said cycle expanded the economy.
Today the same can not be said.  Companies are paying a large share of their profits to the people who work for them.  By forcing companies to continually up-the-ante by way of wages and benefits causes a loss in profits.  Remember yesterdays lesson?  If it becomes less profitable to a company to remain in business, then the only option is to move to where costs of production are cheaper or close the company.  Modern companies have that option.

Lets look at the Triangle Shirtwaist fire as an example.  Due to the desire to make MONEY Triangle Shirtwaist locked women into a sweatshop building.  There was a tremendous fire and subsequent loss of life.  Laws were passed, better working conditions resulted, and Unionization took place.  Today there are almost NO garment makers making clothing in the USA.  The costs of production outweigh the ability to sell the product cheap.  We like cheap clothes in the USA.  Just go down to Walmart and look at the costs of womens clothing.  Really 5$ for a shirt, chances are it is NOT made in the USA.
Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam are all places of origin I've seen recently.  In fact I am sitting here in a pajama from AVON, that was made in Vietnam.  Yes, these places still have sweatshops.  I do not condone sweatshops, but you wanted to know why...

US Labor Unions only stay in business because we want MORE Take Home Pay, MORE Benefits, MORE Vacation and Sick Days.  In essence we don't want to work.  If we don't want to work we shouldn't get paid it's as simple as that.  Labor unions will continue to tell you that you deserve more or they wouldn't stay in business.  They ARE a business.  They do not work for free and they only get paid if they get you MORE.

Companies are leaving the USA because the workers are encouraging it. They can not blame it on Taxes or the EPA alone. If US workers would understand economics they would be better off.   Be content with what you have.  You live better than anyone else in the world.  Why must we always want more.

The Office of the President

Did you know?  One of my pet peeves with people is when they begin a statement, "we wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for _______, " (insert name).  Most of people insert in the blank, Obama.

This then promts me to ask them to clarify.  Most students truely believe that Obama is the root of all governmental evils.

I generally ask them to get out their Constitutions and ask them to find me the jobs of the President.  I quickly point out that Congress shall make all laws.  So why then are you blaming Obama, when we have a House and a Senate that has done a good job of doing the most damage.  As a President he or she can set an agenda for what they would like congress to discuss, but that does not mean the outcome is going to be in his or her presidential best intrests.

While health care was one of the Obama administrations agenda declarations.  He did not MAKE congress aprove it.  Secondly, Congress has generally two factions that can't and won't work together. The Democrats and Republicans.  When they do work together, as we saw just before Christmas to pass the payroll tax extension, the credit does not rest with the president.

On the LONG drive (see previous post) one of the commentators was spouting that the EPA was the root of all evil.  I finally had to tell my husband that I couldn't listen to this SHIT anymore.  The commentator had said that the reason plants are closing and jobs are being lost is because of the EPA and its regualtions regarding safe environmental policy.  I as a History/Government teacher had a cow.  I know why there is an EPA, read your history books folks it isn't pretty.  I wanted to shout at all his callers, the reason you are loosing your jobs is because of EXPENSE.  When the cost of production outweights the money that product would bring in an open market economy.

I'll break it down for you.  If a car costs 12,000 to buy new. Then the costs of production have to be under 12,000 for the company to make a profit.  Companies are in this for the profit, they do not give jobs out of the goodness of their hearts.  If the people making the cars continually expect to make MORE money, and even continue to strike (see Labor Unions) to take home more pay.  Combined with the costs of raw materials like Metal and Fiberglass used to create the actual product.  The car better cost under 12,000 when finished or the company will loose money.  NOW here is where the EPA steps in.  Sometimes companies can make MORE money if they choose to ignore environmental standards.  For instance, using water to clean car parts.  They can either dump it on the ground thereby contaminating your drinking water or they can spend MONEY to filter it and clean it before they dump it.  The first option is zero dollars, the second option is 1,000 dollars.  As a company executive your job is to make costs zero dollars.  You dump it on the ground.  But wait I go to my tap and run some water. It comes out black like sludge.  I call the EPA, they come out assess the situation and now the costs to clean up the problem have cost the company 100,000 dollars.  Is this the EPA's problem or the Company's? The company and the workers blame the EPA, but really who is at fault for the loss of jobs, it's not the EPA?   http://www.epa.gov/cleanup/whereyoulive.htm  Check out where you live, Do you live in an EPA clean up area?

Politico-Anonymous Rants

Since beginning this blog I have thought about the myriad ways in which I could connect with people.  I want to rant on politics.  You may ask what gives me this right.  Well for one the US Constitution and secondly, I graduated with a degree in American Government.  Then several years later I went back to school to teach American Government.  With the first degree they taught me things like what it means to be a senator. With the second they taught me to look to the past to write the future.

Why now?  The other day my husband and I spent over 10 hours trapped in a car together.  For most of that trip we listened to public radio.  When that would fade out we(he) would search until he found some revolting person talking about the economy or some other political problem the comentator had perceived.

I say they were revolting because most of them did not understand how the government worked according to the US Constitution. I got tired of people blaming this person or that person for all the ills of the American people.  I decided I to could rant.  Now I want to see who is listening...
